Samuel Ladoke Akintola Memorial Foundation has described naming of Ibadan Airport after the late former premier of Wester Region Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola as a deserving honour and another level of immortalization.
The Ogbomoso born Nationalist, during his live term was a teacher. lawyer, journalists and a politician, he served as Minister and rose to become the Premier of Western Region before he was killed on June 16 1966 during the first Nigerian coup
President Muhamadu Buhari had in the eve of the end of his tenure renamed some public facilities after some personalities as a way of appreciating and further immortalizing them for their outstanding contributions to the country.
Akintola Foundation in a statement signed by the Cordinator Mr Yemi Adedokun said the entire Akintola family acknowledge and appreciate the federal government for bestowing such honour on the late sage .
Adedokun maintained that Ladoke Akintola during his lifetime devoted his his time to promote National unity and progressive ideology.
The relationship which late Akintola started decades ago laid the foundation for what Yoruba land and Nigeria as a whole is enjoying today.
The foundation also commended Engineer Oluseyi Makinde for upgrading Ibadan Airport facilities and urge him not to relent in his effort to make Oyo state a place of pride.
