Disengaged members of staff of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, on Tuesday staged a protest over their recent sack by the management of the Nigeria Baptist Convention owned private university.
The management of the Nigerian Baptist Convention owned private university had last week disengaged over 100 members of staff of the institution.
The BOWEN management saidthey were forced to disengage some of its staff effective from July 2020, as part of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
The protesters, numbering about 50, carried placards with various inscriptions including “Joshua Ogunwole Must Go!”, “VC Bowen University Restore Our People”, “VC, Stop Destroying Our Heritage”, “Ayokunle, SUPC, Come to Our Rescue”, “Who is Sheriff in Baptist Union?”, and so on.
Lamenting that the Vice Chancellor, Prof Joshua Ogunwole is highhanded, the protesters demanded for his removal, calling for the Baptist Convention to come to their rescue.
One of the protesters who spoke, vowed that the demonstration will continue everyday if nothing is done to assist them today, and that they will take their protest all over the ancient town of Iwo.
