Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has clarified that he has not endorsed any candidate for the governorship or any other political office in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that such decisions rest solely with the Chief Ferdinand Alabraba-led Elders Council.
Speaking on Monday night at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, Wike stated that his only political commitment remains the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a position he says has been consistent and public.
Addressing a joint gathering of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike warned aspirants that no governor from any state can impose a candidate on Rivers.
He also highlighted the crucial role of the State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, in shaping the current political landscape.
The Minister urged coalition members to prioritize the interests of Rivers State and cautioned against internal divisions driven by personal ambitions. He stressed that the group’s strength comes from unity and commitment rather than financial influence, noting that external forces are seeking to divide stakeholders due to their successful collaboration.
Wike expressed disappointment in individuals who, after benefiting from appointments facilitated by the group, criticized its leadership. He described such actions as a failure of character and warned that attempts to undermine others through deceit would not succeed.
He also dismissed rumours of private endorsements for elective offices, reiterating that the group has officially endorsed only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the presidency.
Commending the Council Chairmen, Rivers elders, and party leaders for effectively coordinating the meeting, Wike said the absence of complaints about inclusiveness demonstrated the success of the gathering and reinforced the coalition’s unity.
