Afro-fusion artist Sean Dampte Oluwaseun Oluyole shared his reflections on the state of the nation at 65 years of independence while speaking with the newsmen.

“Nigeria at 65 is a paradox full of promise, yet still far from fulfilment. There is no doubt that a lot remains to be done. The bigger question is whether we have the zeal to do it.

Patriotism, which should be the foundation of nation-building, has become scarce. They say patriotism is the last honour of thieves, and perhaps that is why, even as corruption persists, we still struggle with love for our country at the most basic level.

While the government is working in its own way, we must also ask: are the people working? Too often, we forget that a nation always gets the leaders it deserves. If we want change, we must not only demand more from our leaders but also hold ourselves accountable.

At 65, my call is simple: let us all put our hands on deck. Let us demand better, work harder, and be fully invested in the idea of Nigeria. Only then can the promise of this great nation truly be realised.”
