There is need for traditional rulers to ensure adequate security and sustenance of peaceful co-existence in their domain to foster unity and socio-economic development in Nigeria.
Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo stated this at the celebration of 100 days of Olubadan of Ibadan land Oba Sen. Lekan Balogun organized by Yoruba World Centre in conjunction with Oyo State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, ALAROYE Newspapers & TV and Tunde Odunlade Arts Gallery held at University of Ibadan.
The Vice President, represented by the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Adeniyi Akintola said he recognized the roles of traditional rulers as leaders in the society and pray for long life and peaceful reign for the monarch.
In a remark, Chairman of the programme, former governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, represented by Chief Sarafadeen Alli commended Yoruba World Centre and other bodies for organizing the epoch event.
Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman, Board of Directors, Yoruba World Centre and publisher of ALAROYE Newspapers, Ogbẹni Alao Adedayo expressed gratitude to God and other bodies that jointly put up the event for making it successful.
Ogbẹni Adedayo explained that the event was organized to welcome Oba Lekan Balogun to his ancestral throne and as a mark of honour as well as celebration of Yoruba tradition and culture as part of the roles of Yoruba World Centre.
In a remark, Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun explained that the event is a celebration for Olubadan and Yoruba tradition and culture, stressing that the ministry will continue to support any organization championing promotion of Yoruba language, culture and tradition.
Among the traditional rulers in attendance include Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, represented by Adimula Akande Babatunde Ogunwusi, Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Omoniyi Abolarin among others that honoured Olubadan who was physically present at the event with Ibadan high chiefs.
