Moses Akwete, brother to former Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Hon. Godwin Obode, has cried out over threats to lives of his brother and other members of the family.
Moses, who spoke yesterday with reporters in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, lamented that almost two years after the 2015 general elections had come and gone, some political thugs were still threatening the Obode’s family.
He also raised concerns over the whereabouts of the frontline youth mobilizer and his immediate family members.
According to him, since the attempts on their lives during and after the 2015 polls, the former Special Adviser to Governor Ajimobi and his family members were yet to resurface in the state.
Mr. Moses said his brother and his family members fled the state after series of attacks by some political thugs, who were not pleased over his support for former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan during the 2015 presidential election.
Hon. Obode had voluntarily resigned from the Governor Abiola Ajimobi led All Progressives Congress (APC) government in Oyo State to join the campaign train of the then incumbent President Jonathan, who was the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the poll.
Hon. Obode was accused of betraying the progressive family to support former President Jonathan, who is his kinsman from the South-South region of the country.
Moses lamented that after Jonathan lost the election and APC took over power at the national level, some political thugs have been invading the family house and personal residence of Hon. Obode, both located in Ibadan, the state capital.
He revealed that the hoodlums also attacked Hon Obode’s siblings, including Mr. Douglas Oseiwe Obode, who was accused of persuading his brother to dump APC.
“Douglas was attacked on three different occasions during the 2015 general elections, and he narrowly escaped not being killed by these hoodlums”, he lamented.
Moses wondered why Hon. Obode was being persecuted for supporting and mobilizing for candidates of his choice during the 2015 gubernatorial and presidential elections in Oyo State.
He said contrary to the claim that the youth mobilizer betrayed APC, he had voluntarily resigned from the Ajimobi ‘s government before pitching his tent with PDP.
While making copies of the resignation letter available to reporters, Moses described those persecuting his brother as ethnic bigots just hiding under the cover of working for politicians.
The resignation letter dated January 27, 2015, is personally signed by Hon. Obode and addressed to Governor Ajimobi through the Secretary to the State Government’ (SSG).
