The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will resume full enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy nationwide from January 2, 2026, citing rising security concerns linked to the misuse of vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police clarified that there was no court order restraining the Force from enforcing existing laws on the use of tinted glass on vehicles. However, enforcement had earlier been suspended to allow motorists sufficient time to regularise their documentation and complete the permit registration process.
According to the police, recent security assessments revealed an increase in criminal activities in which vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass were used to conceal identities and facilitate crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent offences.
The statement said the decision to resume enforcement became necessary as part of proactive measures to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety across the country.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured Nigerians that the renewed enforcement would be carried out professionally, with respect for citizens’ rights and in strict compliance with extant laws. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to upholding the rule of law and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure national security.
The police also urged motorists who require tinted glass permits to apply through approved channels and ensure that their vehicles comply with all legal requirements before the enforcement date.
The announcement was signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and dated December 15, 2025.
