Scores of butchers in Ibadan on tuesday kicked against the demolition of their shops with a protest to the government secretariat
The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions such as ‘Eyin ara ilu e gba wa o’ ‘ APC, butchers voted you to power, don’t let us vote your party out’ and ‘APC ni apapo e gba wa o’.
One of them, Tunji Jigan, who spoke to journalists on behalf of others, lamented that the abattoir was destroyed at the weekend and they have come to let the government know about the incident.
Speaking on the directive by the state government that all butchers should relocate to the new central abattoir at Amosun village in Akinyele local government of the state, Jigan noted that the case was already in court and government should allow the court give verdict before asking them to relocate.
The state deputy governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo, who adressed the protestants assured them that the case would be presented to the Governor and subsequent meeting with the butchers’ representatives would be initiated for amicable resolution.
Meanwhile Police Warns Butchers Against Violent Protest
The Oyo State Police Command said it will not hesitate to deal ruthlessly with anyone or association whose activities in whatever guise are capable of causing breakdown of law and order in any part of the state.
This was contained in a press release iasue and signed by the Command’s PRO Adekunle Ajisebutu where they warns butchers in the state against violence protests
According to him ” The Police wishes to advise a group of butchers in Ibadan which embarked on a protest this morning following a recent government relocation order, that while it recognises the group’s fundamental right to protest, such protest should be carried out within the ambit of the law.”
“The Police will not watch individuals, groups, or associations disrupt the peace currently being enjoyed in the state
