The Nigeria Police Force has strongly condemned the violence rocking Osun State and vowed to bring those responsible to justice. The crisis, which has led to the destruction of property and the loss of innocent lives, has prompted swift intervention from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun
In a statement released yesterday, the Force announced the deployment of additional tactical squads to Osun State to reinforce security and restore law and order. The IGP stressed that violence undermines the democratic process and threatens the well-being of citizens, affirming that those behind the attacks will face the full weight of the law.
“The Force will not tolerate any act of lawlessness, hooliganism, and anarchy in the state,” the statement read. “The perpetrators of these criminal acts will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted accordingly.”
The police urged residents of Osun to remain calm and continue with their daily activities, assuring them that normalcy is being restored. The statement also emphasized the need for political actors to respect judicial processes, reiterating that the courts remain the ultimate arbiter in electoral disputes.
The Force pledged to monitor the situation closely and enforce measures necessary to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, signed the statement on behalf of the Force Headquarters in Abuja, dated February 17, 2025.
