This was revealed in a press statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on January 17, 2025.
The suspects, Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume (aka “AK”), were arrested during a well-coordinated sting operation on January 11, 2025. The raid led to the recovery of nine locally fabricated pistols, an unfinished locally made AK-47 rifle, gas cylinders, vise machines, and other tools used for weapons production.
In a separate operation in Delta State, police operatives acting on credible intelligence raided the residence of a notorious Eiye confraternity member, Prosper Akeni. The 32-year-old, identified as a hitman for the cult group, was found with an arsenal including an English revolver pistol, a Beretta pistol, and locally made firearms, alongside 25 rounds of ammunition. Akeni confessed to being the custodian of the weapons for his cult group.
Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, two suspects were apprehended in connection with murders. On December 31, 2024, Yunusa Haruna, 25, allegedly stabbed his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death in Shanga Local Government Area. Similarly, on January 8, 2025, Abubakar Ummar was arrested for fatally stabbing Mohammed Bala during an argument in Zuru Village.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun lauded the efforts of the operatives for their achievements and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to tackling crime. He urged the public to collaborate with the police by providing useful information to enhance community-based policing.
The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its fight against crime, promising a safer and more secure nation.
