The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, Salamatu Danjuma, over the alleged killing of her husband in Nadabo village, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.
According to a statement on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had been embroiled in a dispute over the custody of their six-year-old daughter.
“Despite initial discussions with her family that seemed to favor taking in the child, the husband later refused, escalating tensions between them,” Wakil stated.
The situation reportedly took a violent turn during a heated argument when Salamatu allegedly grabbed a knife from their bedroom and stabbed her husband.
Police officers from the Bununu Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call, rushed to the scene, and evacuated the victim to a nearby cottage hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough probe into the incident, after which legal action will follow, the statement added.
