The Oyo State Police Command has arrested one Alfa Basiru for allegedly being in possession of suspected human flesh and recovered an abandoned vehicle at the Toll Gate in Ibadan.

The Command, in a statement on Thursday, emphasised the importance of its ongoing stop-and-search operations across highways, intersections, and adjoining roads, describing them as crucial for deterring crime and safeguarding lives.

A statement on X handle of Oyo State Police Command read: “A Federal Highway Patrol team intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG, leading to the arrest of one occupant, identified as Alfa Basiru, who was found in possession of suspected human flesh.

“The suspect claimed to have purchased the substance in Lagos. He has since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further interrogation.”

Police disclosed that the discoveries occurred along the Toll Gate axis of the Lagos – Ibadan expressway at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

“The suspected item is undergoing forensic analysis to determine its authenticity and source.”

In a separate case, Police said operatives flagged down a Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX during a routine search resulting in the driver abandoning the vehicle and fled the scene.

“The car has been taken into custody by the Command.

“Members of the public with legitimate claims to the vehicle are urged to come forward with verifiable documents and contact the Police Command via +234 808 176 8614”.

The Command emphasised that such operations were not exaggerated security theatrics but real and deliberate measures to maintain law and order while ensuring the safety of residents and travelers within Oyo State.

While thanking the public for their continued cooperation and understanding, Police assured that efforts would be sustained to combat crime and foster a more secure environment
