The Nigeria Police Force has announced the prosecution of Hon. Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh following allegations of assault on a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of October 27, 2024.
The Police Special Investigation Unit and Legal Section completed their investigation, leading to Ikwechegh’s arraignment at the Kuje Magistrate Court on charges of “Abuse of Office, Criminal Intimidation, and Criminal Force and Assault,” offenses under Sections 397(b) and 265 of the Penal Code Act.
This action comes in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, who ordered a thorough investigation to ensure justice and uphold respect for human dignity in Nigeria.
According to a statement from ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the rule of law and reassured the public that justice would be upheld, emphasizing that no one is above the law.
This prosecution underlines the Police Force’s dedication to promoting accountability and protecting citizens’ rights, reinforcing its mission to serve as a guardian of justice for all Nigerians.
