The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has said that a people-centred approach to tax administration is crucial to boosting efficiency, encouraging innovation, and driving national development.
Adedeji stated this at the Annual Performance Award and Retiree Send-Off Ceremony held recently in Abuja, where the Service honoured outstanding employees and celebrated long-serving retirees.
He explained that recognising and motivating staff are key to achieving organisational goals and improving revenue performance.
“Every award, every handshake, every public ‘thank you’ is an investment in our nation’s future,” he said, adding that recognition goes beyond ceremonies but serves as a strategic investment in effective tax administration.
According to him, FIRS has adopted a performance evaluation system that measures more than revenue figures, taking into account quality of service to taxpayers, staff innovations, and the collective mission of the Service.
Adedeji noted that by celebrating both high-performing staff and retirees, FIRS reinforces values such as integrity, professionalism, and dedication, which are vital for enhancing taxpayer engagement, boosting revenue generation, and advancing national growth.
“When our people feel valued, they give their best, and when they give their best, the whole country benefits,” he reiterated.
