The brain behind the famous football tournament, Peller Unity Cup (PUC), Honourable Shina Peller, who represents Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency at the House of Representatives, has announced that the second edition of the tournament will hold next year between January and February.
Hon. Peller made this known in a statement shared on his social media platforms where he hinted that the organizers will start rolling out forms to interested football teams across all the 10 local government areas in the Oke Ogun region. He added that twenty teams, two from each of the 10 local government areas will be selected after thorough screening to participate in the tournament.
Similarly, Hon. Peller recalled that the second edition of the tournament should have held in 2020, but that due to the outbreak of the COVID-19, it had to be postponed. He stated further that the second edition, scheduled to hold next year (2022), is designed to be bigger and better for a greater Oke Ogun.
The statement read:”We are pleased to announce that all is set for the next edition of Peller Unity Cup (PUC) themed: The Road to Oke Ogun, which has been scheduled to hold between January and February 2022 by God’s grace.
“Recall that the tournament ought to have held last year (2020), but we had announced its postponement due to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“On this note, we are set to start rolling out forms to interested football teams across all the 10 local government areas that make up the Oke Ogun region. As done in the maiden edition, at the end of the screening exercise, twenty teams, two from each of the 10 local governments, will be selected to participate in the tournament.
“It would be recalled that the maiden edition of the PUC succeeded in identifying many football talents from the grassroots as teams from the tournament later featured in state competitions for the first time and quite a few of the players have carved a niche for themselves in football.
“The good news is that the second edition has been designed to be bigger and better for a greater Oke Ogun.”
