At this critical time when our nation is at a crossroad, when the cluelessness of the ruling party has hit a world record high never attained before.

This period calls for and requires a formidable opposition, a responsive voice and a stronger structure and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) still stand as the only opposition party with the presence and needed weight to salvage the present precarious governance and political state the nation is.

Now that the PDP prepares for a national convention, no doubt what the party needs now is to be led by a strong leader with little or no blemish that could serve as an attack point to the wolverine ruling party to distract and derail such personae from focusing on the huge task of rebuilding the party.

You’ll agree with me that the task ahead for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is more cumbersome than it would have been five years ago, we now have a PDP that has been highly infiltrated with moles to disrupt and continue to spark the fire of crisis upon crisis from the wards to the state and national level of the party. The agenda of the enemy is simple, only a united house can win election, thus a divided and distracted PDP embroiled in multiple crises cannot have time to strategise to win an election.

Good examples are the Edo and Ondo governorship elections and the Osun West Senatorial District by-election. We saw how dis-unity cost the party Edo and Ondo where it stood better chances and how with a united house, the party defeated the ruling APC in Osun.  That is why the enemy will continue to fan the ember of discord in the PDP being the only party with presence and structure across the nation that could give the APC a run for its money and dwindling popularity.

When the head is rotten, the body cannot make any impact, which informs why who becomes the next Chairman of the PDP is of paramount importance, should the party get it wrong with its chairmanship position, then the party is threading the path of another abyss. This time it could mean the end of the party.

After a critical assessment of all the major contenders for the PDP Chairmanship position, I concluded that they have intimidating credentials needed to lead the party, but I found one more outstanding among them.

Like I posited earlier, the PDP needs one who has no corruption allegation or pending case which could be used as a bait to distract him from giving his best. It is on this note that I believe the PDP should settle for the aspirants from Rivers State, Prince Uche Secondus.

The chronicle of his life, his antecedents, core values, political and administrative prowess for over three decades to this stellar moment, makes him stand out as the veritable choice to lead the PDP to a fair haven.

I had a rare privilege of listening to Prince Uche Secondus’ Press briefing in Abuja recently, where he reeled out his vision for the PDP.

Of special interest to me was his 3Rs mission of Rebuilding an already shattered and battered PDP, Repositioning a PDP ship already on a free fall to abyss and Regaining the loss of yesteryears.

I saw a Secondus beaming with vigour, brighter vision and the political wherewithal to turn around the fortunes of the PDP for better performance. He talked about the inclusiveness of the youth in the development of the party, giving them a voice in the affairs of the party and also preparing them for purposeful leadership.

His unwavering loyalty and deep conviction in the ideals and values of the PDP also stand him out among others.

As a firm believer in competence and hardwork, Secondus has strongly stated that this should serve as the basis to be rewarded with political mandate and not godfatherism. This he hopes to uphold if he emerges as the Chairman of the PDP.

As a highly principled progressive politician, impunity can never find its way into the new PDP leadership Secondus plans to bring to bear in the party.

It is expedient for all men of goodwill in the PDP to rally round this colossus as he goes forth in pursuit of the PDP National Chairmanship position to make better impact, reinvigorate, raise standards for efficiency and overturn the dwindling fortune of our dear PDP to winning ways.

Secondus’ wisdom, experience, strength and capability are highly needed at this time to make this a reality.
