The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has felicitated with the Papacy, His Holiness, Pope Francis on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
The PDP, in a statement at the weekend by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said it is remarkable to note that he (Pope Francis) is the First Catholic Priest of the Americas and the only non European to emerge Pope in history of the Catholic Pontiff.
The party pointed out that the Pope is known for his act of charity, humility, doctrinal conservatism and commitment to social justice. According to the statement,

“Pope Francis is the 266th and current Pope of the Roman Catholic Church and Head of the Vatican City; born on the 17th of December 1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina as Jorge Mario Bergoglio
. He chose ‘Francis’ as his Papal name on the 13th of March 2013 in honour of Saint Francis of Asisi. “Pope Francis began his priesthood journey following his ordination as a Catholic Priest in 1969 and in 1998, he became the Archbishop of Buenos Aires. Before then, Pope Francis was Provincial Superior of the Society of Jesus in Argentina (1973–1979), Auxiliary Bishop of Buenos Aires (1992–1997), Titular Bishop of Auca (1992–1997) and Cardinal-Priest of San Roberto Bellarmino between (2001–2013).
