The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the invasion of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja by individuals it described as expelled members acting in concert with armed thugs and compromised security personnel.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the BoT said the attackers stormed the secretariat on Tuesday in an attempt to forcefully take over the complex and disrupt party activities. The incident escalated when tear gas was reportedly fired at governors and senior party officials who arrived at the secretariat alongside the newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, and the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, was said to have been obstructed by the invaders, who allegedly unleashed violence on party members.
The BoT also expressed dismay over the presence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike—also expelled from the party—who appeared at the scene with heavy security, a move the Board interpreted as open solidarity with the attackers.
Commending the “courage and resilience” of PDP governors, leaders, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), BoT members, and supporters who resisted the disruption, the Board reaffirmed its full support for the newly elected national leadership.
According to the BoT, the election of the NWC during the Elective National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, was conducted in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution, party guidelines, and the Electoral Act.
The Board dismissed as mischievous and misleading the statements and media engagements by individuals it described as lawfully expelled from the party, accusing them of attempting to delegitimize the Ibadan Convention and destabilize the party’s internal structures.
The BoT called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the attack on the PDP Secretariat and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice, stressing that democratic institutions must remain impartial and shielded from partisan interference.
Reaffirming its role as the conscience of the party, the BoT urged the new NWC to remain focused on rebuilding and repositioning the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement was signed by H.E. Senator Adolphus Wabara, Ph.D, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP.
