Panelists at a discussion organized by the Postgraduate students of University of Ibadan has advocated for the inclusion of Youths in any forms of analysis and intervention towards the speedy recovery from the pandemic as well as implementation of policies for peaceful and sustainable growth.
The discussants including Professor Isaac Olawale Alber, Bobola Omowon, Dr Bolaji Ahmed and Dr Oladejo expresses their view at a program organized by the Department of Peace, Security and Humanitarian studies student Association as part of the activities organized to celebrate the international day of Peace 2021.
The theme for this year which is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”
Professor Olawale Albert, An international peace scholar and Professor at the faculty of Humanitarian Studies University of Ibadan posited that for effective and proper recovery and having a sustainable world, young people should key into programs of World Health Organization and other agencies of the United Nations toward achieving SDG 2030 which aims at making Nigeria an eldorado.
Omowon, a public affairs analyst said the youth should be more proactive and involved in activities that will enhance the growth and development of Nigeria.
According to him ” Youths should not just sit down and play dormant role in nation building and politics, but strive and joined in the struggle for power and make judicious use of the opportunities to develop the future they want.
Omowon who also harped on the need to reorientiate Nigerians and educate them on what to to recover better said there is need to build institution ” irrespective of handlers ,strong institution will work”
Dr Oladejo a lecturer at the Department said ‘There is an inherent talent in Africa youths, they are creative and strong but they are not channeling their energy towards the development of their nation
On recovery from the pandemic, Oladejo said , Most African countries are not prepared for the pandemic as there health sector and disaster management system is not strong enough to face such challenges and they are still not enough to tackle any outbreak.
A medical practitioner, Dr Ahmed Bolaji while speaking on recovery said there is need government to promote and encourage preventive medicine to avoid total breakdown “preventive medicine will reduce the effect that outbreak and spread of any diseases that may surface at any time in the country”
Earlier in her paper, Titi Gbadamosi said “citizens should not only vote during elections, they should also be watchdogs on government policies,, youth should be more responsible to be a formidable Nation and civil Society organization should ensure transparent, accountability and proper implementation of policies that will engender development
On monday, the students, lecturers and management staff of the department staged a peace advocacy rally in the campus to sensitized the youths on the need to ensure peace and harmony in the department
The walk had Professor Tajudeen Akanji, former deputy governor of oyo state Chief Adeyemo Moses Alake, former Head of Service, Chief Soji Eniade, Dr Ruth Adio Moses, Dr Oladejo, SA to the governor of Oyo state on student affairs and sport development Hon. Victor Olojede among others.
The chairman of the program Honourable Asimiyu Alarape, and President of the Association comrade Michael Adebisi in their separate remarks commended the management staff, lecturers and students of the institute for their Corperation and support for the success of the programm
The program also feature presentation of poem, games among others.
