Palliative works have commenced on the Ibadan end of the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha Expressway, marking a major relief for motorists and residents who have endured the poor state of the road for months.
The lawmaker representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, Hon. Akin Alabi, announced the development in a statement on Thursday, assuring road users that the intervention was part of efforts to make the road motorable before full reconstruction begins.
According to him, the project is being handled by CBC Global Nigeria Limited, which has already commenced work at the Ilesha axis of the expressway.
“Given the deplorable condition of the Ibadan end, we reached an agreement with CBC Global Nigeria Limited to carry out palliative repairs ahead of the main construction works,” Alabi stated.
He explained that the palliative intervention would help ease vehicular movement and reduce the rate of accidents along the route while awaiting comprehensive reconstruction.
The lawmaker, who also holds the traditional title of Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the completion of the project, noting that it is a vital link between Oyo and Osun states as well as a key route for interstate trade and travel.
Motorists plying the expressway have commended the move, expressing optimism that the temporary repairs would bring immediate relief pending the start of the full rehabilitation work.
