The Oyo State Police Command has dissociate self from the alleged killing of three people, shot dead following gunshots that erupted after people protested the failure of the firefighters in the town to stop a fire incident that happened on Sunday morning in Akesan market in Oyo town.
The state command made this known through the Command Public Relation Officer, SP. Olugbenga Fadeyi where he denied the police involvement in the killing claiming that the police doesn’t attack anybody as alleged.
“Contrary to widely spread news on the fire incident at Akesan market in Oyo town, there was no single shot from the Police personnel in Oyo”.
“Police personnel were only deployed immediately to the scene to prevent hoodlums from capitalising on the situation to loot shops and properties in the area, adding that concerted efforts are being intensified to prevent breakdown of law and order.
The police spokesman who was shown pictorial evidences of the alleged shooting said, “I have called and I can confirm there was no police shooting and nobody died. I will intensify efforts and make calls again to confirm.”
Meanwhile, we could recalled that fire razed Oyo’s central commercial area, Akesan Market, leaving few shops and other building untouched, a development which led angry residents to embark on protest at the gate of the fire station in Oyo on Sunday morning.
