The Oyo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commiserated with victims of the fire inferno at Dugbe market on Wednesday in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The ruling party in a statement signed by its state publicity secretary, Engr Akeem Olatunji, described the incident as unfortunate and heartbreaking.
Engr Olatunji said that the demands of dealing with COVID-19 in the state was already overwhelming noting that such unfortunate occurrence was surely going to overstretch the state government especially during this period of fighting hard to curb spread of the dreaded virus in Oyo state.
The party added that it has already set up a team to investigate the situation and true cause of the explosion in order to be able to properly interface with necessary authorities with facts and comprehensive details.
PDP in the state stressed the importance of always applying precautions and safety measures within and around business environments to prevent unforeseen circumstances.
The party lauded the immediate response of people within the immediate environment of the inferno for the starling efforts put up in attempt to put out the fire before arrival of firefighters.
The party assured that it will engage necessary authorities including National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) with the view of getting relief materials to all victims of the inferno pending when a definite action plan will be decided by the state government.
The party however urged all residents in the state, business owners and business operators to always ensure to keep their business environments safe from anything that could lead to environmental or organizational hazards.
Engr Olatunji according to the statement stressed the need for residents to adhere strictly to state government stay at home order in order to continue to keep number of casualties of COVID-19 in Oyo state at it barest minimum.
The party lauded the gallantry efforts of Oyo state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, Oyo state COVID-19 Taskforce, and Oyo state security chiefs in the management of the pandemic within the state, describing them as true heroes of this era stressing that history will be kind to them.
