The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has raised alarm over an alleged plan by Dominion Broadcast Group (DBG) to encroach on a parcel of land belonging to the union, located beside the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
This was part of the resolutions reached at the end of an emergency congress of the union held on Wednesday, October 9, 2025, and presided over by the state chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola.
In a communiqué issued after the congress, the union expressed disappointment over the alleged move by the management of Dominion Broadcast Group to trespass on its land, which it said has been in its possession for years and backed by a Certificate of Occupancy issued by the Oyo State Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.
The congress urged the owners of Dominion Broadcast to desist from any attempt to encroach on the union’s property and called on the Oyo State Government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, to call the management of the broadcast organization to order.
It also advised security agencies to be on alert regarding the development, while charging candidates in the forthcoming NUJ state elections to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid campaigns capable of bringing the union into disrepute.
The communiqué was signed by the NUJ State Secretary, Comrade Sola Oladapo, and drafted by a committee chaired by Comrade Abiodun Atilola, with Comrades Musliudeen Adebayo and Mosunmola Akinola as members.
However, in a swift reaction, Dominion Broadcast Group denied the allegation, describing it as a misunderstanding.
In a press statement signed by its Chief Executive Officer, Femi Adefila, DBG stated that it had no intention of forcefully acquiring or trespassing on the said land.
According to the statement, the organization’s engagement with the NUJ was “in good faith,” aimed at exploring a “mutually beneficial partnership that would promote the growth of the media ecosystem in Oyo State and beyond.”
Adefila reaffirmed DBG’s respect for the NUJ, emphasizing that as members of the media community, the company would never engage in actions detrimental to the interest of the union.
He added that Dominion Broadcast remains open to dialogue and constructive engagement with the NUJ to resolve the issue amicably and foster a positive working relationship.
“We urge the public and the media community to disregard any contrary insinuations and remain assured of our continued commitment to ethical practice, transparency, and collaboration,” the statement concluded.
