The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has congratulated a former Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State Chapter, Mrs Adekitan Adeagbo, on her recognition by the Oyo State Government with a Merit Award.
Mrs Adeagbo, a retired Director of Broadcast in the Oyo State Ministry of Information and Orientation, was honoured for her outstanding performance and remarkable contributions to the civil and public service of the state during the 2025 Public Service Week/2024 Merit Award ceremony held on Friday.
The state government described her as a dedicated professional whose career was marked by commitment, integrity and excellence in service delivery.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Oyo NUJ Council, Comrade Akeem Abas, and the Secretary, Mr Dayo Adu, the union commended Mrs Adeagbo for distinguishing herself throughout her years of service, noting that the honour was well-deserved.
According to the statement, her recognition is a testament to her professionalism, passion for journalism and public communication, as well as her enduring impact on the public information sector in Oyo State.
The council also praised her leadership qualities, particularly during her tenure as NAWOJ Chairperson, where she championed capacity building, ethical journalism and the advancement of women in the media industry.
It added that her contributions extended beyond the newsroom to policy support and the strengthening of public information structures across the state.
The NUJ described her achievements as a source of inspiration to serving and upcoming journalists, urging professionals in the public information space to emulate her work ethic, dedication and commitment to excellence.
While wishing her success in her post-retirement life, the council prayed that her future years would be filled with fulfilment and continued opportunities to contribute meaningfully to society.
