The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has called on security agencies and the state government to intensify surveillance across the state to prevent possible security breaches, despite the police’s dismissal of recent rumors regarding herdsmen invasion.
The appeal was part of resolutions reached during the union’s monthly congress held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan. The meeting was presided over by the State Chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the congress, the union acknowledged the efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde and various security agencies in addressing security challenges in the state. It, however, urged them to treat emerging threats with seriousness and refine their strategies for effective protection of lives and property.
The union also commended the Oyo State Government for implementing the new minimum wage for workers. It further appealed to Governor Makinde to increase the monthly subvention to the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) to enable the state-owned media outlet to meet the demands of the new wage structure.
Additionally, the congress praised both federal and state governments for ongoing improvements in road infrastructure across the country, urging them to remain proactive in ensuring road safety.
The communiqué was signed by members of the drafting committee: Comrade Akeem Abass (Chairman), Comrade Dayo Adu (Secretary), and Seun Adedeji (Member), and was electronically endorsed by the Oyo NUJ State Secretary, Sola Oladapo.
