The need for young girls to prioritize good personal hygiene was highlighted during the flag-off of the Pad-a-Girl Initiative, organized by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State Chapter. The event took place at Saint Theresa’s College, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
The Chairperson of Oyo NAWOJ, Mrs. Omolola Alamu, emphasized the importance of access to sanitary pads for young girls, revealing that many girls in the community miss school due to the lack of these essential products. She stressed that it is vital for organizations and philanthropists to support the girl child by providing sanitary towels, which are crucial for maintaining proper personal hygiene.
Some of the students at the event expressed their gratitude to Oyo NAWOJ for the kind gesture and appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to contribute more sanitary towels to ensure that every girl has access to this basic necessity.
The Pad-a-Girl Initiative aims to empower young girls by promoting good hygiene practices and ensuring that no girl is left behind due to menstrual challenges.
