Oyo LGSC Holds 2026 New Year Interfaith Prayer, Thanksgiving and Award Ceremony, Hails Makinde’s Welfarism Policy

The Oyo State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has held its 2026 New Year Interfaith Prayer, Thanksgiving and Award Ceremony, bringing together government officials, labour leaders and staff of the commission to reflect on the past year and renew commitment to effective service delivery.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Commission, Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole (Wolekanle), expressed profound appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for his consistent commitment to the welfare of workers across the state.

He described the governor’s support for local governments and the commission as a major factor responsible for the stability and progress recorded within the local government system.

Bashorun Akinwale commended members of staff for their dedication and commitment to duty, while urging them to further improve their level of commitment and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.

In his remarks, the Head of Local Government Administration at the Commission, Mr. Adedayo Solaja, described the programme as an avenue to reflect on past achievements and refocus on the commission’s collective goals. He applauded staff for their dedication, noting that the successes recorded so far were the product of collective effort and teamwork.

As the new year begins, Solaja urged staff to remain focused, imbibe the spirit of self-discipline and uphold collective responsibility. He also commended the commission’s board, led by Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, for its understanding and supportive leadership.

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), LGSC Branch Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Lawal, described the working relationship within the commission as harmonious. He noted that the chairman is a good listener who responds promptly to requests, and urged staff to remain dedicated and committed to their duties.

Also speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Thomas Oguntona encouraged staff to rededicate themselves to the service of the commission and to continue to give maximum support to the chairman in the discharge of his responsibilities.

A full-time Commissioner in the Commission, Alhaji Tope Yusuf, praised the chairman for his informative leadership style and unwavering commitment to the growth of the commission. He described LGSC staff as hardworking and dedicated, and appealed for their continued total support to sustain the progress recorded.

Similarly, Hon. John Oke applauded the chairman, noting that his cordial relationship with Governor Makinde has contributed significantly to the smooth running of activities within the commission.The Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on Establishment, Hon. Sijuade Lawal, described Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole as an exceptional leader, citing his transformational leadership style and commitment to service. He also commended Governor Makinde for his genuine concern for the welfare of government workers and pensioners, urging staff to reciprocate the gesture with diligence and dedication to duty.

The event featured interfaith prayers, thanksgiving sessions and the presentation of awards to deserving staff, marking a symbolic and purposeful start to the commission’s activities for the 2026 working year.
