A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Ibadan South West constituency one and chairman House committee on Youth and Sports, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi and chairman House has given first set of students from his constituency admission letters of a private institution after necessary screening from the tertiary institution.
The beneficiaries are Afolabi Opeyemi to study Public Administration, Dikrullahi Shakira- Accountancy, Adefemi Fathia- Computer Science, Selimat Oladepo- Accountancy and Makinde Oyinkansola for Computer science.
Hon. Adebisi, who gave two years scholarship to the first five secondary school graduating students for their National Diploma (ND) program, said the gesture is to fulfill his promise during the 2024 Children’s Day celebration with his constituents.
The beneficiary students were drawn across six wards in the in Ibadan Southwest Constituency 1 and promise to secure admissions for the remaining five as soon as their results are ready.
Addressing the beneficiaries of the scholarships at his Oyo State House of Assembly complex office, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi said that it is essential to cater for the children and exposing them to the responsibilities ahead to remind them that they are the leaders of tomorrow.
He opined that the exposure will go a long way in making them to be aware that education is the only key that can open every door of opportunity in their choice of career.
The lawmaker commended the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who he described as his father figure and mentor for his support towards realization of his dream in politics.
Hon. Adebisi charged the students to see the opportunity as a challenge to rededicate and refocus their time and energy towards realizing their objectives in life.
The Chairman House Committee on Youth and Sports urged them to do away with bad friends that can influence them to get involved in bad habits such as gross misconduct, drugs, thuggery, cultism amongst others.
He, therefore, charged the members of the society to give priority to their lives rather than every other frivolous things, especially behavior that can lead to the loss of life in the constituency and Oyo State in general.
Hon. Adebisi promised to do whatever in his capacity to support the beneficiaries apart from the full scholarship and make sure they perform excellently in other to encourage him to do more for other admission seeker in the Ibadan Southwest Constituency one and increase the number.
The lawmaker, who also presented Children’s Day gifts to 500 set students of various primary schools including public and private within the constituency, promised to make the programme, a continuous exercise.
Mrs. Morufat who speak on behalf of other parents appreciated Hon. Adebisi for being a good ambassador of the local government in the state House of Assembly and pray for more greater elective positions and appointment.
She affirmed that the areas such as Bere, Foko, Idi-Arere and so many others have produced many prominent personalities, that the initiative of Hon. Adebisi will encourage many young people within this areas to take education as a priority and this will bring a change of environment and the perception of the public that have tagged the areas a bad name.
He urged the students to avoid distractions that might be coming their way because they are also destined to be to great persons like President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi and several well to do people in the society.
Similarly, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi has paid all outstanding school fees of Rodiat Ayegbajeje, who lost her father in 2019 at age of one, now five years old, will enjoy the scholarship from primary to the university level.
Hon. Adebisi promised to do whatever in his capacity to support the family her father left behind apart from the full scholarship given to his lone child.
