The Oyo State Government has trained more than 7,000 newly recruited teachers on the effective use of digital technology to enhance educational delivery across the state.
Speaking during the induction programme held at Ansaruddeen High School, Saki, the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Post Primary Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Olubukola Oladipo, highlighted the crucial role of technology in modern education.
She urged participants to make the best use of the training, describing it as a great learning opportunity and an important step in their professional journey.
According to her, “This training and induction programme should be seen as a vital first step in your journey to shape the future of our students through education. Digital competence is no longer optional—it is essential for every teacher in today’s classroom.”
Mrs. Oladipo also emphasized the need for all teachers to register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to be recognized as certified professionals.
Commending Governor ‘Seyi Makinde for his consistent commitment to quality education, the TESCOM boss noted that the state’s investment in teacher capacity development reflects the administration’s vision of transforming Oyo’s education sector.
She, however, cautioned the new teachers against acts capable of undermining their integrity, including intolerance, dishonesty, laziness, discrimination, and prejudice.
Also speaking, Dr. Fawole Olalekan, a guest lecturer from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, underscored the importance of digital literacy as a key driver of effective classroom performance and improved learning outcomes.
He explained that integrating technology into teaching would not only enhance productivity but also make learning more engaging and relevant for students.
The newly recruited teachers expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for approving the training and induction programme for the second time in four years, describing it as a motivation to perform better in their new roles.
