The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of six Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and named new Commissioners of Police for Oyo and Enugu State Commands.
In a statement on Tuesday, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani announced the promotion of Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Uzuegbu Kanayo, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
The newly appointed DIGs include Sadiq Abubakar, Commandant of the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano; Benjamin Okolo, AIG Department of ICT, Force Headquarters, Abuja; and Williams Adebowale, Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos. Others are Bzigu Bali, AIG FCID Annex, Enugu; Idegwu Ukuoma, AIG Zone 14, Katsina; and Adebola Hamzat, AIG Zone 16, Yenagoa, who previously served as the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State.
The commission also announced the appointment of CP Ademola Johnson as the new Commissioner of Police for Oyo State. Johnson previously served as Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector-General of Police and was a former Deputy Commissioner of Police in Delta State.
In Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa takes over from AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu as the new Commissioner of Police. Giwa was previously the Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Kaduna and Imo State Commands, as well as ACP in the Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Additionally, eight Chief Superintendents of Police were promoted to Assistant Commissioners of Police. They include Abdullahi Kamba Usman, Sani Abdu, Ifeanyi Owo, Vincent Orole, Elisha Atikinkpan, Margaret Okonkwo, Alhasan Aliyu Guga, and Imo Owinizi Ezekiel.
The promotion process involved written examinations and an interactive oral interview, presided over by PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd). Other officials present included Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd), Commissioner representing the Judiciary in the Commission; DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Commissioner representing the Police; and Onyemuchi Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.
DIG Argungu urged the newly appointed DIGs to support the Inspector-General of Police in strengthening security across the country and maintaining law and order.
