The Oyo State House of Assembly has called on the Present Administration in the State to embark on massive renovation of all the Special Basic Schools across the State.
While reacting to a motion sponsored by the lawmaker representing Ogbomosho North State constituency, Hon. Mrs. Olubisi Oluranti – Oyewo Michael , the House observed that the condition of learning and non – availability of adequate equipment in various Special Basic Schools in Oyo State call for urgent attention of all stakeholders.
Presenting the motion, in a plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi, Hon. Michael declared that many Special Schools in Oyo State are experiencing difficulties in their teaching and learning activities.
Citing Ijokodo Home School for Handicapped , Hon. Michael Said that ” this School with myriads of problems ranging from lack of funds, dilapidated physical structures, inadequate teaching and learning paraphernalia as well as inadequate teachers”
She noted that modern technologies like Computer keyboards, Speech programs, Switch – Adapted Learning Toys are the basic modern technologies that should be employed to aid the learning process of students with special needs.
She noted further that the periodic training of teachers will be an addition to be able to identify the individual educational needs of each Special students.
The House however directed the State Ministry of Education to submit the list of Special Basic Schools across the State before the end of first quarter of the year 2024 for further monitoring and follow up.
In another development, the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has been admonished to work purposefully with the State – Owned educational institutions to ensure that results, Certificates, and transcripts of any graduate are available not later than two months after writing the final year’s last paper.
This was part of the resolves on another motion moved by Hon. Oluwaseun Babalola, representing Ibadan North – East 1 State Contituency.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Appropriation and Finance Bill 2024, passed through the second reading stage at today’s plenary .
The House however adjourned the plenary till Tuesday 19th, December, 2023.
