Oyo Assembly Wants Government to Upgrade Orita Aperin Market, Provide Succour to Victims of Fire Incident

The Oyo State House of Assembly has appealed to the State Government to provide relief materials to the victims of a recent fire incident at Orita-Aperin market in ibadan.

The appeal was on made Thursday following a motion moved by the Lawmaker representing Ibadan North East 1, Hon Babalola Abiodun Oluwaseun.

This is just as the State House of Assembly also called on the State Government to upgrade Orita-Aperin market to international standard with modern facilities including car parks as a way of generating revenue for the State Government.

Presenting the motion titled “The need for the State Government to provide succour for victims of the fire outbreak at the Orita Aperin market and turn the enormous land waste in the axis into revenue generation”, Hon Babalola noted that the inferno which occurred on Monday 29th January destroyed properties and goods worth millions of naira.

He noted that four years ago the market suffered a similar incident, noting that the traffic jam at Aremo Adekile, Beere, Elekuro hampered the rescue effort of the Oyo State fire services.

The Lawmaker however noted that the age long Aperin Market situated on a three thousand hectares of land is a potential wealth laying untapped.

Hon. Babalola revealed that some sections of the market have become arenas for thieves, hoodlums and miscreants perpetrating criminal activities on a daily basis hence the the need to consider turning such areas into car parks that will be generating money for the State Government.
