The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ogundoyin’s declaration follows a strong call by leaders and stakeholders of the PDP across Ibarapaland during a zonal meeting held on Sunday, where party faithful urged him to step forward and vie for the state’s top seat.
Responding to the appeal, the Speaker said his decision to join the race transcends personal ambition, describing it as a responsibility driven by the collective desire of the people for purposeful, inclusive, and result-oriented leadership.
“This decision goes beyond personal ambition. It is a responsibility shaped by the collective yearning of our people for focused, inclusive, and result-driven leadership,” Ogundoyin stated.
He expressed appreciation for the trust reposed in him by party leaders and stakeholders, pledging to approach the task ahead with dedication, integrity, and a clear sense of purpose.
The Speaker also revealed that he held consultations with stakeholders in his constituency in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area, where he received unanimous support and encouragement to pursue the governorship ambition.
According to him, the message from party members and the wider community has been consistent and resolute.
“Across the board, the position is clear—our people are ready, and the moment is now,” he said.
Ogundoyin described his declaration as a defining moment in his political journey, affirming that the race for 2027 has officially begun.
