The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed into law the bill seeking to upgrade the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo to a full fledge university.
The lawmakers passed the bill titled, Emmanuel Alayande University Of Education, Oyo Bill 2022, at their plenary on Wednesday.
Commenting on the upgrade of the College to the university, the Chairman House committee on Education, Hon. Folahanmi Ololade said
“ A new state university is here that will be leading other institutions the way LAUTECH of Ogbomosho is leading. As you can see as at the last ranking, LAUTECH is the best state university in Nigeria. So now we have commenced the same step for the Emmanuel Alayande now. In some years to come now, you will see meaningful development coming out of it, as the best university of education in Nigeria.”
“We thank God for the visitor, the Governor of the state, virtually he has touched all the teachers institutions within a time frame of just four years. He is the first Governor that will do such. We appreciate him.”
Also speaking the minority leader, Hon, Asimiyu Alarape said
“ I am happy today that we are able to achieve this because NCE certificate is no longer marketable, we have had cause for employ teachers in this state and second class upper is being required, so what will now happen to an NCE holder, that means they are not in the reckoning…After much agitation, so we thank God that it is being passed into law today.”
