President of Ibadan Advancement Group, Ramoni Alebiosu in a press statement on Wednesday said that the decision of the House, based on a report of an ad-hoc committee of the House that indicted the sacked council chiefs in all the 33 local government areas and 35 local council development authorities, was a step in the right direction.

According to the statement, “it is high time the sacked chairpersons are made to face the music for their several acts of provocation against the people of Oyo State.

“In the first place, since their suspension and later dismissal as local council chiefs, these individuals have constituted themselves as menace to the peace and security of the state. They go about causing disturbances and destroying public property across the state.

“They do all these with reckless disregards to a modicum of decency and have taken the temperance of His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde for granted.

“As if that is not enough, the state legislators have unearthed several allegations of misdoings against these same individuals when they held reigns as council chiefs in Oyo State.

“It is only appropriate that they are made to face the full wrath of the law on account of these misdemanors, as that will be in the best interest of the people of the state.

“The era has long gone in Oyo State when some individuals will act with impunity and take the law for granted. No, that shouldn’t happen again.”

The socio-political group calls on Governor Makinde not to spare any effort to make sure that the people of Oyo State get justice against, “these enemies of democracy and good governance, because they should be the scapegoats to tell the whole world that there is a new order in Oyo State where there is absolutely no space of indecent behaviours.”

The group also further calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to resist the pressure being mounted on him by “politicians with inordinate ambition, who are hell bent to cause crises and upheavals in Oyo State for their selfish political gains.”

“Like we said earlier in a letter to the Inspector-General of Police, the matter about the tenure of local government authorities in Oyo State is currently before the judiciary, and we once again advice that the police or any other security agency should not put its hands in the matter until the matter is determined by the courts.

“This is a country of law and we have unflinching confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari will not be part of any action that will compromise the peace and security in Oyo State, nor be disrespectful of the dictates of the law.”

The statement concludes by asserting the full support of the people of Oyo State to the current effort by the Oyo State House of Assembly and notes that the lawmakers should address the probe of the sacked council chiefs with utmost sense of justice and impartiality.
