The Oyo state Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Akin Oke has won his polling unit, ward 7 of Ogbomoso North Local Government area of the state in the just concluded presidential/National Assembly election .
He described the conduct of the election as very peaceful , free from rancour with impressive turnout of voters .
According to him, from the reports he had gotten so far from different parts of the state , the entire process went on very peacefully .
The state APC Chairman who commended the INEC for a well done, spoke with journalists yesterday at Jagunlafa, Ogbomoso family compound however expressed reservations on next week’s Governorship/House Assembly election.
He said the tranquility witnessed during the presidential election on Saturday may not be the case in the gubernatorial election slated for 9th of March.
Oke explained that it is not unusual for presidential elections to be peaceful in Oyo state because the people do not have much at stakes.
He said “like previous elections, the presidential election always goes peacefully, because there is no emotional attachments, in this part of the world.
“I expect it to be more emotional during the gubernatorial election because we have a son of the soil contesting. ”
Oke however lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission for a job well done during the general election, noted that
” from all indication, I in particularly in my own unit, it’s been a tremendous success, and I must commend INEC for a job well done.
“The turnout comparatively has been the same pattern and standard.
” To the best of my knowledge, there’s not been any report of violence. The few people I spoke to expressed satisfaction.”
