Following the move by state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde to appoints caretaker chairmen into local government and LCDAs in the state, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria ALGON, Oyo State Chapter has directed all the Local Government Chairmen and Councillors that are democratically elected resume to their duty post and respective offices, tomorrow Wednesday 18th December, 2019.
This decision was resolved from her last general and emergency meeting held at its Secretariat in Ibadan.
ALGON in a statement made available to our medium said “Having explored all the legal means and following what the Supreme Court says in respect of the inability of either the State Governor or The State House of Assembly to dissolve the democratically elected Local Governments Chairmen and Councillors, we hereby direct that all the Local Government Chairmen and Councillors that are democratically elected resume to their duty post and respective offices, tomorrow Wednesday 18th December, 2019.
“Any Caretaker who is poise to forcefully take over their right of place should not be given chance.”
“All necessary precautions have been taken as both the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Director, State Security Service and the Garrison Commander, 2nd Division, Nigeria Army Headquarters, Adekunle Fajuyi Military Cantonment, Ibadan have all been duly notified to the illegal move of the Governor on the likely ugly incidences that might likely follow should he carry his plan appointment of Caretaker Committees to Local Government Councils and Local Councils Development Areas.
“No one should entertain any form of fears as all the security agents who have the mandate to protect lives and properties are have been informed.”
