A chieftain of the Accord Party and House of Representatives hopeful for the Oluyole Federal Constituency, Oloye Ademola Oyepeju Ara, has denied allegations linking him to the vandalisation of billboards belonging to the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji.
Recall that two billboards belonging to the Oluyole Local Government chairman, located at 7-Up Bus Stop and on the Olomi bridge, were vandalised on Monday evening by yet-to-be-identified individuals.
Reacting in a statement on Friday, Ara, who is the founder of the Ara Foundation and Empowerment Initiatives as well as the Oluyole for Oluyole Movement, described the allegation as a malicious attempt by political opponents to damage his reputation.
He explained that he was at home observing the Ramadan fast when he began receiving several calls about the alleged incident, expressing surprise and concern over the accusation.
“I was shocked and disturbed to hear such a claim. I am a peace-loving person who does not engage in petty politics,” he said.
Ara noted that Engr. Olatunji remains his political leader whom he holds in high regard, stressing that he would never jeopardise their relationship over what he described as a trivial matter.
He also condemned what he called the increasing trend of character assassination and dirty political tactics, including the spread of false narratives aimed at discrediting perceived opponents.
The aspirant advocated a new approach to politics rooted in unity and mutual respect, which he described as “family politics,” where political differences should not translate into hostility.
He further urged political stakeholders in the area to prioritise development and progress rather than engage in divisive politics.
“I have zero interest in vandalism or causing mayhem. My focus remains on serving the people of Oluyole Federal Constituency and contributing to the development of Oyo State and Nigeria,” he added.
Ara also raised concerns about the protection of public property, suggesting that surveillance measures such as CCTV could help curb acts of vandalism.
He reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful political engagement and called on stakeholders to work together for the development of Oluyole Local Government, Oyo State, and Nigeria as a whole.
