No fewer than 2,012 people were killed and 1,404 others in a critical condition,
after the 6.8-magnitude earthquake shook Morocco’s High Atlas mountain range on friday.
The shallow quake struck the Atlas Mountains of western Morocco September 8 at 11:11 pm local time at the depth of 18.5 kilometers (11.4 miles), at south-west of Marrakesh, according to the US Geological Survey
According to BBC reports, the quake was felt throughout the country, but most severely in Marrakesh, with many victims believed to be in remote villages in the nearby High Atlas Mountains, near the quake’s epicentre

The armed forces were also mobilized to rescue teams to affected areas to provide clean drinking water, food supplies, tents and blankets, .
In Marrakech, many people are afraid to sleep in their homes in case there are any further tremors. “People are staying away from the buildings in the historical part of the town as some of them have been damaged and there is a fear they could collapse.”
CNN reports that in the Oliveraie Park in central Marrakech, hundreds of people are spending the night lying on blankets and makeshift mattresses.
Whole families are huddled together, trying to get some rest after a night on Friday.
Outside are children, the elderly, and other people bringing supplies and bags with clothes and food, preparing for what may become a long stay away from their home
