The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, Ph.D., has reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, pledging to deliver transformative governance if elected.

Basiru made the declaration at the Alubarika Movement stakeholders’ meeting, where he expressed appreciation to party stakeholders and the movement’s management team for their tireless efforts in mobilizing grassroots support across the state.
He dismissed speculations about his political ambition, stating:
“Let me put the record straight once and for all. I am contesting in the 2026 governorship election. There is no need for desperation. I am a party man to the core, and whoever the party chooses is acceptable to me. What matters now is for us to stay united and continue the great work we are doing to elevate our party in Osun to an enviable position.”
The APC National Secretary reiterated his vision for transformative governance, assuring stakeholders of policies and initiatives that would drive sustainable development if he emerges as governor.
In their goodwill messages, party stakeholders pledged unflinching loyalty to Dr. Basiru, vowing to intensify grassroots mobilization and secure victory for the APC in the 2026 governorship election. They also promised to work toward ensuring President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential polls.
Among those present at the meeting were the newly appointed Director of Administration at the APC National Secretariat, Barrister Ayoola Peter Olajolo; Chairman of the Alubarika Movement, Alhaji Kehinde Olamolu; Rt. Hon. Akintunde Adegboye, and other key members of the management team.
