In a show of compassion and support, the Onpetu of Ijeru Kingdom, Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran Lagbami Osekun III, and Hon. Lamiju Alao Akala, a lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North, South, and Oriire Federal Constituency, have pledged to support the education of Balikis Moshood, an orphan who lost her mother and two siblings in a tragic auto accident. The accident occurred on the night of Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Ojuodo, Apake, Ogbomoso.
Hon. Alao Akala, on Friday, awarded Balikis a scholarship that will cover her education from primary school to the university level. The announcement was made through Hon. Bello Razaq Atanda, who led a delegation to the bereaved family’s residence at Apake Extension, behind Atenda/Odo Nana area.
Accompanying Atanda were notable figures, including Alhaji Azeez Ayobami (Love Azeez), Alhaji Azeez Sakiru (Ojuoloore Chairman), Mr. Stephen Alabi, Hon. Adeleke Tayo, Hon. Adeshina Gabriel, and Mr. Oyetunde Amao.
Similarly, the Onpetu of Ijeru Kingdom received Balikis at his palace on Saturday morning, November 16, 2024, where he also pledged to sponsor her education.
Oba Oyediran directed her guardian to enroll her immediately at Aduke Primary and Nursery School, Oke Ado Akintola, Ogbomoso, while assuring his continued support for her educational journey. The monarch also provided Balikis with an undisclosed amount for her upkeep.
In addition, Reverend Dr. John Fatunbi, the Undershepherd of Oja Oba Baptist Church, Ijeru Oba, Ogbomoso, pledged the church’s support for Balikis. He assured the family that the church would determine its course of action soon and would notify them accordingly. Rev. Fatunbi was present at the palace during Balikis’ visit.
This heartwarming intervention highlights the commitment of community leaders to provide hope and a brighter future for an orphaned child in the face of tragedy.
