President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to double up efforts at overhauling the security architecture in Nigeria
The Chairman South West Group of Online Publishers gave this urge during a luncheon held at Development Support Centre (DSC), Iyaganku Quarter, Ibadan, Oyo State.
SWEGOP is a group for online news publishers in the Southwest region of Nigerian. It prides itself as the epitome of ‘ethical revolution’ in online journalism. It has been in existence for close to five years.
The Chairman of the group, Mr Olayinka Agboola in his speech charged members of the group and the Nigerian journalists at large to explore their media to continue to remind the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to do more than the usual and overhaul the country’s security architecture.
Agboola emphasised that “We must talk about it every time, we should go to our different Houses of Assembly to lobby our lawmakers there to discuss it and offer practicable solutions. Aboaraeni niaabo ilu.
We cannot say Kaduna is far, or Borno State is not near and thus, pretend not to be concerned. Nobody knows whose turn it will be tomorrow. Let us take the issue of insecurity more seriously. The assignment is not only for the government, we must be on our guard at all times.”
The SWEGOP Chairman then congratulated the governors of the South-West states on the bold move to establish the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps.
He implored them to make haste while the sun is still shining, noting that it is taking too long for them to activate the project.
“It is not rocket science. They should match action with words. Procrastination can dampen the spirit of our people. Our governors need to move faster,” Agboola said
