A fatal road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the life of one person and left nine others injured, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed on Saturday.
The accident, which occurred around 6:55 a.m. at New Garage inward the Lagos-Ibadan corridor, involved a white Iveco truck (MEK 34 XC) and a Toyota commercial bus (ENU 814 XJ).
According to the FRSC Public Education Officer, Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, a male passenger died on the spot, while nine others — eight men and one woman — sustained varying degrees of injuries.
“FRSC rescue operatives responded within minutes, evacuating the injured to the Emergency Centre, Ojota, and Gbagada General Hospital. The deceased has been deposited at the Real Divine Hospital Mortuary, Ibafo,” Jayeola stated.
She added that the vehicles had been taken into custody by officers of the Motor Traffic Division, Ojodu Abiodun Police, while investigations continue. Preliminary reports linked the crash to speeding and obstruction.
The Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, condoled with the family of the deceased and prayed for the recovery of the injured. He cautioned motorists against speeding, particularly during the “ember months,” stressing that many avoidable accidents occur due to impatience and lack of concentration on the road.
Hamzat also assured road users of the Corps’ commitment to safer highways and the protection of lives and property.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, spanning about 127.6 km, remains one of Nigeria’s busiest yet deadliest highways, with frequent accidents linked to speeding, reckless driving, and poor road conditions. Recent crashes along the corridor include an incident where 19 passengers narrowly escaped death and another that left six people dead and several others injured.
