Political violence rear its ugly face in Ibadan on Sunday morning as hoodlums suspected to be sponsored of the opposition party attacked the house of Professor Joseph Olowofela, All Progressives Congress APC’s candidate for Ido /Ibarapa Federal Constituency.
Olowofela a former commissioner for Education in the state escape unhurt but one of his supporters simply identified as Alhaji Salau Salimo Alade was killed and several others injured. Also seven vehicles were damaged by the assailants.
The deceased has since been bury according to Islamic rite while the injured are receiving treatments at undisclosed hospitals in Ibadan.
According to an eye witness, the incident occurred shortly after executive governor of the state Senator Abiola Ajimobi and the party’s gubernatorial candidate Oloye Bayo Adelabu left the rally in Omi Adio.
Media Aide of the former commissioner, Ayodele Idowu when contacted said the attack was carried out by the opposition who are afraid of the soaring political profile and image of Professor Olowofela
He said ” It is absurd that at this age and time some people will be engaging in such dastard act as a way of expressing their displeasure over somebody’s growth, obviously, Olowofela has surpassed them and they are afraid of being relegated”.
Idowu said” Awe are not afraid of them, my principal is a law abiding and responsible citizen who believes in engaging in intellectual discussion rather than violent attack.”
Professor Olowofela has called for calm and urge the security operatives to investigate and put in measure to checkmates the activities of the unscrupulous elements and criminals who might want to hide under politics to shed peoples blood
