In what appears to be an apparent response to recent reports in the news concerning the issues of kidnapping, robbery, and cult attacks in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, OON, has reaffirmed Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Ondo State.

Dr. Ajulo made this statement on Tuesday in Akure, emphasizing the government’s steadfast dedication to the welfare, safety, and security of its citizens. He assured the people of Ondo State that adequate measures are ongoing to enhance the State’s security architecture and make it even safer than before.

The Attorney General stated, “A week ago, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, in his pragmatic approach, issued a directive for the amendment of state laws concerning security, public safety, and peace. Many of the existing laws, such as the law against cultism and other related offenses, require thorough revision to address current realities. For instance, previous laws did not account for the involvement of family members, friends, and associates in their interpretation.

“Additionally, the existing laws identified just over 200 cult groups, whereas many more now exist, and the provisions of these laws no longer align with the current operations of cult groups. This has created significant obstacles within the justice system, including challenges related to punishment measures. As a result, Governor Aiyedatiwa ordered an immediate review of the laws to introduce more stringent penalties for violators.

“People deliberately violate the law knowing that the severity of the punishment is bearable. For instance, instead of the current six-year prison term for certain criminal offenses, violators may now face 21 years in prison or, in cases involving murder, the death sentence. Additionally, the Governor has approved ongoing training programs for investigators and prosecutors to enhance the effectiveness of their operations.”

He further explained that the Governor is working to expand the State’s security framework by fostering stronger synergy between security agencies and establishing a new task force, the Governor’s Task Force Against Cultism, to combat cult-related activities in the state effectively.

The AG revealed that the Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Chief Security officer of the State and Chairman of the State Security Council, is in constant review of the security architecture of Ondo State and has set plans in motion to strengthen security operations across the state. He highlighted the government’s collaboration with security agencies to ensure a heightened presence and a proactive approach to prevent incidents of unrest.

“The safety of the people and the protection of businesses and investments remain top priorities for Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa,” Dr. Ajulo affirmed.

The HAG assured the public that the government of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains fully committed to ensuring justice is served promptly and adequately. He stated that the justice system will remain focused on its purpose, and no effort will be spared in bringing the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice.

“This is a government for the people and by the people, and Governor Aiyedatiwa is relentless in his efforts to create a safe and prosperous Ondo State for all its citizens,” Dr. Ajulo concluded.
