Following the recent fire outbreak that ravaged shops and valuables at Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin 1), has called for the urgent implementation of safety measures in markets across Oyo State to prevent further disasters.
Expressing concern over the frequency of fire incidents in the state, the monarch urged market leaders and relevant stakeholders to enforce stringent safety protocols to protect lives and businesses.
“I am not happy with the spate of fire disasters in markets and other places in Ibadan and Oyo State. It is too frequent for comfort,” he lamented. “Market managers must take proactive steps to ensure safety and prevent the recurrence of these unfortunate incidents.”
The Olubadan emphasized the need for collective action to mitigate the impact of such disasters on economic activities and livelihoods. He also sympathized with traders who lost their goods in the inferno, praying for their recovery and urging the Oyo State Government to support them in cushioning their losses.
The state government had earlier promised a thorough investigation into the Aleshinloye Market fire, which is one of the worst market disasters in recent years.
