The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr) Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja (Arusa I), has urged societies, clubs and social groups across Ibadanland to channel their efforts into developmental projects that will enhance the economic well-being of the people rather than focusing solely on social activities.
The monarch made the call on Thursday during a solidarity visit by members of the Oluyole Social Elite Ibadan to his palace at Oke Aremo, Ibadan. The message was contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Ayoade Solomon Olugbemiga.
Oba Ladoja emphasized that God alone enthrones the Olubadan of Ibadanland, not political power, influence or wealth. He expressed gratitude to God for preserving his life to ascend the throne, adding that he remains committed to serving the people with wisdom, humility and dedication.
He appealed for continued prayers from residents and indigenes for divine wisdom, good health, happiness, mercy and longevity as he steers the affairs of Ibadanland.
“As your servant, I will do all within my power to ensure unity, peaceful coexistence, progress and, above all, the actualization of the creation of Ibadan State,” he said.
The Olubadan stressed that achieving the vision of a modern Ibadanland requires the collective effort of all sons and daughters of the ancient city, both at home and in the diaspora.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of Oluyole Social Elite Ibadan, Builder Simeon Oludele Solademi, disclosed that the association, founded 55 years ago, is celebrating its anniversary this week. Activities marking the three-day celebration include a solidarity visit to the Olubadan for royal blessings, thanksgiving services in church and mosque, visits to motherless babies’ homes, a public lecture, and a grand finale scheduled for Saturday at Ibadan House, Oke Aremo.
Dignitaries who joined the Olubadan to receive the visiting group included the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, and the President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Barr. Niyi Ajeniyi Ajewole, among others.
