The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), has suspended two Mogajis over allegations of land grabbing and related misconduct.
The affected Mogajis are Kamorudeen Kolawole of Kukula family, Oke-Ofa Baba Isale, in Ibadan North East Local Government, and Samsudeen Bello of Ekerin Ajengbe family, Isale Osi, in Ibadan South West Local Government Area of Oyo State. In addition to their suspension, their traditional beads were confiscated.
According to a statement signed byChief Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade
Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, the decision was announced during the Olubadan Land Matters Committee meeting held on Thursday at the old Olubadan Palace, Oja-Oba, Ibadan. The suspension takes immediate effect.
Speaking on behalf of the monarch, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, stated that the suspension would remain in place indefinitely until the affected Mogajis “do the needful.”
“You have been told severally to desist from any act that can tarnish the reputation and image of the Olubadan and Ibadanland, such as land grabbing, trespassing, forceful land taking, and the oppression of your family members and other residents in your domain,” Oba Olakulehin said.
He further directed the suspended Mogajis to stop parading themselves as titleholders and called on law enforcement agencies to arrest any individual found violating the directive.
The Olubadan also expressed displeasure over the nonchalant attitude of some Mogajis and Baales who ignored invitations to appear before the Land Matters Committee, warning that such acts of insubordination could lead to the loss of their titles.
Present at the meeting were prominent traditional figures, including Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, the Ashipa Olubadan of Ibadanland; Oba Dauda Abiodun Azees, Ashipa Balogun of Ibadanland; Oba Salaudeen Hamidu Ajibade, the Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadanland; and Chief Isiaka Akinpelu, Special Adviser to the Olubadan on Chieftaincy Matters.
