The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), has declared the title of Sarkin Sasa as null and void, stating that it is not recognized under the Ibadan Traditional Chieftaincy Law.
The monarch made this known during an Olubadan-in-Council meeting held at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan, on Monday.
According to the Olubadan, Chief Akinade Ajani Amusa remains the duly recognised Baale of Sasa land in Akinyele Local Government Area and serves as the accredited representative of the Olubadan in the area.
“Any individual or group within Sasa land falls under the authority of Baale Amusa. Disobedience to his directives will be considered an affront to the Olubadan stool and will attract serious sanctions,” the monarch warned.
The statement follows a recent event held on March 8, 2025, which was initially announced as the 8th-day Fidau prayer for late Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin Kastina, but turned into a turbaning ceremony for his son as the new Sarkin Sasa — a move carried out without the consent of the Olubadan.
The declaration was contained in a statement e-signed by Chief Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade, Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
