The Okanlomo of Odua, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has shifted focus from ceremonial congratulations to the potential economic and developmental gains of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent state visit to the United Kingdom, describing it as a strategic move capable of repositioning Nigeria’s global standing.
Rather than viewing the visit as a routine diplomatic engagement, Chief Sanusi emphasized its far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s economy, stressing that the high-level meetings with King Charles III and the Royal Family signal growing international confidence in the country’s leadership and direction.
According to him, the visit opens new pathways for increased foreign direct investment, particularly in critical sectors such as infrastructure, technology, and energy. He noted that strengthening ties with the United Kingdom could accelerate Nigeria’s access to global markets, modern innovation systems, and institutional partnerships.
Chief Sanusi also underscored the importance of translating diplomatic engagements into measurable outcomes for ordinary Nigerians. He urged relevant government agencies to ensure that agreements reached during the visit are effectively implemented to deliver jobs, improve public services, and stimulate local economies.
“The real success of this visit will not only be in the handshakes and photo opportunities but in how it impacts the daily lives of Nigerians,” he said, adding that sub-national governments and private sector players must key into emerging opportunities.
He further highlighted the potential for expanded educational and cultural exchange programmes, noting that such collaborations could empower Nigerian youths with global exposure and skills necessary for a competitive economy.
Reaffirming his support for the Tinubu administration, the Okanlomo of Odua called for sustained diplomatic engagement and policy consistency, stressing that long-term partnerships with global powers like the United Kingdom remain vital for Nigeria’s growth and stability.
Chief Sanusi concluded by urging unity among Nigerians, noting that collective effort is essential to fully harness the benefits of international collaborations.
